American Lutheran Church—Adams, NE

477 baptized members and 338 confirmed members who are eligible to vote on issues that face the Congregation.  They elect the Pastor and Council.

1 Pastor—elected and called to serve the Congregation and lead it in fulfilling its mission.

6 Council Persons, 1 Treasurer, 1 Financial Secretary who serve the Congregation and take care of the business and work for the spiritual health of the Congregation.

2 people, along with the Pastor, are elected and sent as delegates to the Nebraska Synod Assembly.

Homestead Mission Cluster of the Nebraska Synod, ELCA

One of 20 groups of Congregations who join for fellowship, support and to find ways of doing ministry in their area.  They meet monthly (varies) and have an annual meeting to determine budget and work which they can do.  We have 17 congregations in the Homestead Cluster, stretching from American in Adams to the Kansas border and west to Plymouth.  One clergy from the Cluster is elected as Dean of the Cluster.  People from the Cluster are nominated for positions in the Nebraska Synod and are elected at the Synod Assembly.

Nebraska Synod, ELCA

Composed of 265 Congregations and is defined by the borders of the State of Nebraska.  The delegates from these Congregations and Pastors and other certified people are asked to gather at the Synod Assembly and make decisions which affect the life of the Church in this territory.  They elect:

· One Bishop, who is called to be Pastor to the pastors and congregations of this Synod.  Currently Rev. Bishop David deFreese with the office is in Omaha.

· Twenty-two clergy and lay people to serve on the Synod Council which takes care of the business of the Synod between assemblies.

· Numerous Officers, committees and representatives to the Churchwide Assembly.

Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA)

The national and international expression of the Church.  It’s decision making body is the Churchwide Assembly which meets every other year.  This Assembly elects:

One Churchwide Presiding Bishop, currently Rev. Mark Hansen

Members of the Churchwide Council, many officers, heads of divisions and committee members to serve the Church

The Churchwide offices are in Chicago and through this office we send missionaries to other countries, work with other churches, work to provide materials and support to all the congregations of the Church.  Make our voice known is issues of life and importance in our nation and in the world.
