MISSION ACTION NEWS; God always has time for us - if we would only find and take the time to talk with Him through prayer. Here is an easy formula for prayer you might consider, using your hand as a guide - so put your hand out in front of you while you read this. Little finger: Pray for the "little people" in the world: those poor, needy, hungry; refugees, those imprisoned, those suffering injustice, those abused, those who are forgotten and lonely, known and unknown to you. Ring finger: Pray for those who are dear to you: Family, relatives near and far, loved ones, friends and neighbors, including members of our American Lutheran Church family. Tall finger: Pray for the "big people" in your life: Our nation’s leaders, including our President, Legislature and Courts, our Governor and State leaders, for City officials and local leaders, including also our Bishop, leaders of our church agencies, our synods Pastors, along with our Pastor and church staff at American Lutheran. Index finger: Pray for those whom you might point your finger at. Pray for your enemies, not only those who are enemies to our country, but those you are having difficulty with, not getting along with, or who do not like you. This area is as important as the others. Thumb: Pray for your needs, as this finger points back to you. Pray that you can be open to God's Word and will in your life, that you might continue to grow in faith, obedience, understanding, and above all, love. Let's continue this 2008 year of our Lord by looking at our fingers to remind us of those who need our prayers, and let us then put our hands together as we come before our ever-abiding Lord in prayer. May our prayers to God and our listening to God help guide us with our many projects as we share our abundance and reach out to those in need, not only here at home but around the world. All people are God's children and we have a responsibility to share God's love through our hands, words, actions, and sharing. In May the women of our church will have their general meeting and the women attending that meeting will help decide the next projects we will be doing as a church family. We hope many of you will attend the meeting. Also, at any time if anyone has a suggestion for a project please let the Mission Action Committee know: Sharon Floth, Karen Page, and Esther Oosting. Here are some ideas from Lutheran World Relief - quilts, sewing kits, sewing fabric kits, layettes, school kits, health kits, and soap just to mention a few. There is also Fair Trade chocolate, Fair Trade handcrafts, and Fair Trade coffee. Closer to home ideas - Project F.I.R.S.T. families, Hope Crisis Center, Friendship Home, People's City Mission, Project Haiti (bread wrappers), Cedars for Children, Christmas in a Shoebox, BRIDGE ministry, Community Pantry & Emergency Services, Camp Carol Joy Holling needs, Campus Lutheran, and our Armed Forces members just to name a few. We put a thank you in the bulletin but once again thank you to all who donated for the Hope Crisis Center In-Gathering in April. Watch the weekly church bulletin for future news and always keep your eyes open for display areas in our parish hall waiting for your donations! Thank you and God Bless you.
